Event Details

Five years is an eternity in the life of a blog, and this November, Second Ave. Sagas reaches that milestone. It's been five years of arguing over subway map design, the Fulton St. Transit Center and MTA fare hikes and service cuts. Although the site's namesake subway line on Second Ave. won't makes it debut for another five years, we're celebrating the site's birthday in style this December.

Come out to The 13th Stop on Thursday, December 1 for a birthday bash. Meet the folks behind the site, chat with fellow transit buffs and argue over Vignelli for a few hours. It's been a good half a decade, and we'll toast to another five.

We'll have a cash bar at the party, but as an added bonus, Roadify, the popular New York City-based transit app, will be sponsoring some finger food at the party. Roadify combines NYC's best transit data with updates from real commuters, giving you the most up-to-date transit conditions for subways, buses and traffic in real-time. Roadify's free iPhone app won Grand Prize at the city-sponsored NYC BigApps2.0 earlier this year and can be downloaded here. Roadify v2.0 is due in December and is set to change commuting for good.

The 13th Step is on 2nd Ave. between East 9th and 10th Sts. It's a short walk from the 6 at Astor Place or the N/Q/R/4/5/6/L at Union Square. You can take the M15 SBS as well.

Second Avenue Sagas

With more than five million daily weekday riders, New York City’s subway system is the lifeblood of the City that Never Sleeps.

Dubbed the Transit Authority by the Village Voice, Second Ave. Sagas has been the home for news, views and commentary on the subway system, MTA and transportation in New York City since November 2006. Founded with an eye toward tracking the progress of the long awaited Second Ave. Subway, SAS has morphed into a site that focuses on all things transit underground — and some things above ground. From fare hikes to map design, labor policies to construction, bus rapid transit to underground technology — it’s all on Second Ave. Sagas. Updated a handful of times throughout the day, Second Ave. Sagas has become a must-read for thousands of New York City residents, and it remains the premier blog focusing on public transportation in New York City.
